A kind and helpful man was riding his horse in the desert. Far away, he saw someone lying on the ground. The person was calling for help. The man rode quickly to help him.
The person on the ground was a stranger. He was very thirsty, very hungry, and almost dead. The kind man got off his horse and gave him water. The stranger drank and started to feel better.
But the stranger was not kind. He took out a weapon and hurt the man badly. Then he left him alone in the desert, took his horse, and rode away.
The kind man was still alive, but very weak. He called to the stranger and said:
— Don’t tell anyone what you did.
The stranger was surprised and asked:
— Why not?
The hurt man said:
— You hurt a good man. But if people hear about this, maybe no one will help others again. Then kindness and courage will disappear.
